FAQ
What is Greentest?
Greentest is a portable nitrate, water, and radiation meter that fits easily in your pocket. It shows whether the food, water, and surrounding environment are safe enough.
What does Greentest do?
Greentest in 3 seconds accurately determines the nitrate content of every type of fresh fruit or vegetable as well as meat and fish. It also measures TDS in water and the radiation background of air and the surroundings.
Can I use Greentest to test water, meat, milk and other foods?
Greentest only works with certain types of fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, and water.
What are nitrates?
Nitrates are a type of salt that can be found in food. Some types of nitrates occur naturally, while others are added during the cultivation and processing of vegetables and fruits.
Why should I check the nitrate content of fresh fruits and vegetables?
The nitrate content is an indicator of the overall quality of the product. An excessive amount of nitrates is harmful to human health and can cause major illnesses.
What health problems are associated with nitrates?

Consuming high doses of nitrates is dangerous to health in the long run. Increased nitrate intake is especially dangerous for infants and young children. The World Health Organization recommends a daily intake of nitrates at a maximum dose of no more than 3.7 mg of nitrates per kg of body weight. WHO recommendations.

Most health-conscious people know the dangers of pesticides in fresh fruits and vegetables. But only a few of them realize the nitrate danger from fresh fruits and vegetables.

A growing body of evidence suggests that the nitrate threat is greatly underestimated.
Can Greentest show the freshness of fruits and vegetables?
In some sense. Some food looks fresh yet it isn’t. High nitrate levels occur when nitrate ions in plant cells are gradually released during decomposition. When food is not fresh, nitrate levels tend to rise. This can be seen in a product that has been stored in the refrigerator for several months. It is possible that various additives were used to improve the appearance. Freshness is also associated with potential bacterial or fungal contamination.
Does Greentest show that the product is organic?
As a result of many tests on our devices, unsafe levels of nitrates have been identified in products with a certain brand of “organic”. Greentest does not determine whether a product is organic, but it can show high nitrate levels in organic products. This may indicate that fertilizer was still used during cultivation or that it is not fresh enough.
Can Greentest show the presence of heavy metals, pesticides and other substances?
The device is not designed to detect pesticides and heavy metal ions, since they don’t affect electric conductivity, however, a high nitrate content suggests that the product was grown in a source where questionable agricultural practices may have been used.
Can I use Greentest to determine the amount of nitrate in cooked vegetables?
No. The device is calibrated to detect nitrate ions in fresh fruits and vegetables. However, it has been proven that boiling fruits or vegetables in water can reduce the amount of nitrates by up to 40 %.
